Bucket list – here you get inspiration
Nowadays, everyone has a bucket list: a list of things or activities you want to do by a certain age, or before it’s no longer possible. There are plenty of travel destinations, but what are the places that are so special you really must see or the things you really must do? Although bucket lists are personal, a little different from person to person, we’ll give you some suggestions below. We have divided everything into three categories: active, nature and culture. This is our own opinion, we had them on our list and can now tick them off!
Bucket list – Active
Doing special things in different parts of the world is unforgettable. A multi-day hike to the Machu Picchu for example, or playing golf surrounded by wildlife in South Africa. Of all the active things on our bucket list, we found our trip with a dogsled in Finnish Lapland to be perhaps the most impressive. Late in the evening, we let dogs pull us over the frozen and snowy lakes of Lapland behind our guide. We were the only ones under a cloudless sky with a full moon providing us with ample light. The only thing we heard was the howling of the huskies who just seemed to want to keep going. Truly an experience never to forget!
The most beautiful walks on Maui
Maui is the second largest and, as far as we are concerned, one of the most beautiful islands in Hawaii. The island was created by the merging of two volcanoes. Here you will find diverse microclimates with unique flora and fauna. Between...
Through the Ubud rice fields with an e-Bike
Recently we were back in Bali. The island of the gods has much more to offer than you can experience on just one holiday. One of the highlights of our second visit was an e-Bike ride through the countryside near Ubud. We found that Ubud,...
A holiday to Lapland in winter
A winter holiday to Lapland is like a holiday in a fairy tale landscape. Everywhere you look you see an immense white world. The trees are beautifully covered with thick piles of snow. The silence is enormous and, in the evening, you...
Oahu, Hawaii – the very best hikes
Oahu, the third largest island, is about 70 kilometres long and 48 kilometres wide. It consists of two mountain ranges, namely the Wai'anae - where there is also the highest mountain on the island (the Ka'ala of over 1,200 metres above sea level) - and...
Playing golf at Hans Merensky
As golfers we have seen quite a few golf courses on the planet. One that will always stay with us is the Hans Merensky Country Club. This 18-hole golf course was founded in 1967 and is located in Phalaborwa on the western border of the Kruger National...
Canyoning in Dalat
Canyoning, that's far too much for people our age, isn't it? That’s what I thought. In Dalat, however, we met so many people who thought it was so fun that we once asked if we could do it too. When we heard positive stories, we decided to give it a go....
Trekking through the rice fields of Sapa
In the north of Vietnam, about 350 kilometres from Hanoi, lies Sapa. Around this city are beautiful rice fields. The best way to visit them is by going on an organised tour under the guidance of an experienced guide. We booked the tour via Sapa Sisters....
The Gibbon Experience
If you want to do something really special that seems a little scary but is not, go into the Laos jungle for a few days on the Gibbon Experience. The goal is to spot the gibbons, but even if you don't see them, the trip is just fantastic: you sleep in...
The Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu
A hike through the Colca Canyon
Bucket list – Culture
There are some wonders of the world you simply must see. If you go to Peru and neglect the Machu Picchu, you will regret it forever. The same goes for the fantastic temple complex of Angkor in Cambodia. You can easily spend three days here. However, what impressed us most was the visit to the old concentration camps of Auschwitz near Krakow in Poland. The shivers run down your spine when you visit places like those.
Bucket list – Nature
Although nature in our own country is great sometimes, we can enjoy special natural phenomena all over the world. What made the most impression was a visit to the fantastic Galapagos Islands. However, the game parks in Tanzania and South Africa also belong on this list, just like the salt plains of Uyuni in Bolivia and rugged New Zealand. Some suggestions for your nature bucket list can be found below.
